Beginning Monday, April 13, 2026, a contractor for the Town of Barnstable Department of Public Works is scheduled to perform soil borings along various Hyannis roadways including portions of South Street, Old Colony Road, High School Road, and Bearses Way. Work is anticipated to take three weeks, weather permitting, and will require temporary modifications to local traffic, including lane closures or lane narrowing, within the vicinity of the active work zone.
Work within the proximity to Barnstable Community Innovation School will be conducted from April 20-24, concurrent with April Vacation for Barnstable Public Schools.
Soil borings require a small hole to be drilled in the roadway to assess the soil conditions and groundwater elevations, which are critical elements of the project design. This work will require a drilling rig to be onsite, which will be accompanied by traffic control personnel within direct proximity to the work.
These efforts will serve the Downtown Hyannis Force Main Rehabilitation Project, which includes the evaluation, design, and rehabilitation of the downtown sewer force main infrastructure, a critical component of the area’s municipal sewer system.
As always, please slow down and use extreme caution when traveling through road work areas. Follow posted safety and detour signs as well as directions from traffic control personnel.
If you have any questions or wish to receive project updates, please contact the Department of Public Works at 508-790-6400.
