Road Closure on Old Shore Road, Cotuit-UPDATE
Due to a contractor delay, work on this project is now anticipated to begin on Monday, May 4.
Beginning the week of May 4, 2026, a contractor working for the Town of Barnstable, Aqua Line Utility, Inc., will begin construction of new stormwater infrastructure as part of the Old Shore Road Stormwater Improvement Project.
To facilitate this work, Old Shore Road, from Putnam Avenue to Main Street, Cotuit, will be closed during construction hours. Construction is anticipated to take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, weather permitting. This work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks to complete.
Throughout construction, residential and emergency access will be maintained. Additionally, public access to Ropes Beach will be maintained. Traffic control personnel will be onsite to assist motorists navigate around and, if needed, through the construction area. Outside of construction hours, the roadway will re-open to all traffic.
In partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), these projects will improve drainage and reduce stormwater inputs into the Cotuit Bay estuary, in an effort to protect shellfish habitat and improve water quality.
