On Monday, December 29, 2025, a contractor working for the Town of Barnstable began conducting soil borings within the vicinity of Main Street, Centerville, Old Post Road, South Main Street, Park Avenue, and surrounding neighborhoods. These activities will gather critical information for the design of the Long Pond Sewer Expansion project, which is scheduled to begin construction in 2027 as part of the Town’s Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP).

Work will occur Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, weather permitting. To facilitate this work, traffic control personnel will accompany the contractor as they perform soil tests at designated sites within the project area. This work requires a geotechnical drill to be onsite, which at times may require temporary lane closures to provide an adequate and safe work zone. Overall, this activity is low-impact and is anticipated to take approximately one month to complete.

As always, please slow down and use extreme caution when traveling through work areas and follow posted safety and detour signs.
