The Town of Barnstable Open Space Committee is pleased to announce the installation of 30 new hiking signs across Town-owned conservation lands, marking public access points and trails at 15 properties throughout the community. This initiative, funded through the Community Preservation Act (CPA) and installed by the Town’s Department of Public Works (DPW), represents a significant step forward in improving access, awareness, and enjoyment of Barnstable’s natural resources.
The new signage program supports the Town’s ongoing commitment to promoting walking, exercise, and outdoor recreation as essential components of community health and quality of life. By clearly identifying trailheads and public access points, the hiking signs create a more connected network of ponds, trails, bike paths, and green corridors linking neighborhoods across Barnstable’s seven villages.
This effort implements a recommended action item from the Town’s recently updated Open Space and Recreation Plan—transforming community priorities articulated from the plan into tangible improvements for residents and visitors alike.
