The “Artist Spotlight “program displays the works of local artists on meeting room walls in Barnstable Town Hall.   Exhibiting this collection of photos is a first for photographer Lisa Greene.  Her photos are featured in the James H. Crocker, Jr. Hearing Room and Selectmen’s Conference Room in Barnstable Town Hall, now through August 30, 2022.  Artwork may be viewed virtually on the artsbarnstable.com website: https://artsbarnstable.com/interests/galleries/town-hall-hearing-room-gallery/

ARTIST STATEMENT:
“I ‘developed’ my love for photography when my father gave me my first camera for my 8th birthday.  I loved to take pictures of almost anything: my dog, my hamster, my stuffed animals, but especially my family.  I filled photo album upon photo album with pictures of family parties and vacations, school events, and my friends.  Taking photos at that time for me meant capturing moments, capturing memories.

Eventually my photo taking turned to be more artistic in nature.  I appreciate the world around me.  I admire the beauty that nature provides to us every day. When I was 11, I took my first sunset photo. My mother developed it, blew it up to an 8 x 10 and hung it on our wall.  I was so proud of that photo!  I guess you could say that my mom was my very first customer.  From then on, sunsets were one of my favorite things to photograph. They still are.

Photography has a cathartic effect on me.  I can only hope that my photos bring the same feeling to the people who see them.”

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT:
“Each photo was carefully thought out to be in this exhibit with the vision to have viewers catch a glimpse of what I see when I look through my camera lens.  I truly hope who ever views these photos enjoy them as much as I do. I selected both sunsets and sunrises as sunsets are one of my favorite things to photograph, but sunrises speak to me as well.  There is something about waking up early in the morning to sit on the beach when the world around you is waking up; the water is crashing quietly, and birds are chirping happily, and the sun is slowly coming up over the horizon. “
