Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) is hosting an in-person public meeting on Thursday, October 27, 2022, to discuss the environmental review process associated with the airport’s recently approved Master Plan Update. The meeting will allow attendees to ask questions or provide comments, as well as receive an update on the ongoing review process. Background – In May 2022, Cape Cod Gateway Airport completed an update to the Airport’s Master Plan to ensure that the facility can continue to meet current and future aviation safety and efficiency requirements. The preparation of an airport master plan is required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in order to plan for the future and highlight airport projects in need of federal funding, including rehabilitation of existing infrastructure. The goal of the Airport Master Plan is to provide the framework needed to guide future airport development that will cost-effectively satisfy aviation demand, while considering potential environmental and socioeconomic issues.
The Cape Cod Gateway Airport will spend 18-24 months coordinating with state, federal, and local agencies to ensure that the Master Plan projects meet the environmental review requirements of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), and the Cape Cod Commission. Any projects that are recommended by the Master Plan will also meet, as needed, permitting requirements after the environmental review process is complete.
