(Barnstable, MA – July 20, 2022) The Town of Barnstable is preparing to begin construction on the second sewer expansion project in a 30-year plan to protect the Town’s coastal waters, freshwater ponds and public drinking water resources.
The Town has selected Harwich-based Robert B. Our, Inc. to construct the Route 28 East sewer expansion project. Robert B. Our, Inc. entered the low bid at $17,057,086 for construction of the sewer and force mains and pump station. The firm will generate a detailed construction schedule once a contract with the Town is executed. Construction is anticipated to begin by the fall and conclude in winter 2023.
The Route 28 East project will allow approximately 90 properties to connect to the municipal sewer system and will install critical infrastructure needed to proceed with other sewer expansion projects. This project will expand sewer westerly along Route 28 to the intersection of Route 28 and Phinney’s Lane. The project will install approximately 8,600 linear feet (LF) of new sewers within Route 28, Phinney’s Lane, and West Main Street. The project will construct a new sewer pump station at the Town-owned property located at 1456 Falmouth Road (Route 28), and will install approximately 11,600 LF of sewer force mains from the pump station to the Water Pollution Control Facility. The project will also install 4,300 linear feet of water main within Route 28, Earle’s Court and Captain Ellis Lane to improve water quality and water pressure.
The Town held a public information session about the project last fall and this summer will mail detailed information to property owners along the Route 28 East sewer route. The mailing will explain what to expect during construction and request owners’ input on siting the sewer connection to their property. Additional information about the project and the sewer connection process is available on the Town’s BarnstableWaterResources.com website.
