Installation of New School Zone Signs on West Main Street at Barnstable High School in Hyannis

The Town of Barnstable Department of Public Works is scheduled to install new school zone signs on West Main Street in front of Barnstable High School in Hyannis. The work is anticipated to be completed by August 30, 2023, subject to favorable weather.

The new signs will include flashing beacons and speed feedback displays to increase driver awareness of the school zone, in which the speed limit is 20 MPH when the beacons are flashing. The signs will be programmed for flashing mode during regular school arrival and dismissal times.

While most of the work will occur in the sidewalks, temporary lane closures are expected on West Main Street to perform parts of this work. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times during the work.  As always, please slow down and use extreme caution when traveling through road construction areas, and follow posted safety and detour signs.

If you have any questions, please contact Paul Graves, P.E., of the Department of Public Works at 508-790-6400 or Paul.Graves@town.barnstable.ma.us.
