Cape Cod Challenger Green Project was awarded President’s Volunteer Service Award Silver Medal on April 24th 2024 , on occasion of Earth Day, at the Barnstable High School.
The award was conferred by KUMU Consulting, a certifying organization of the award, headed by Miss Kumu Gupta. KUMU Consulting was member of the President’s Challenge Program of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition under President Obama 2011-2016 and Kumu Gupta is recipient of President’s Council Community Leadership Award as well as President’s Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement (President’s Call to Service) Award.
The Cape Cod Challenger Green Project, spotlighted on WCVB Channel 5 , ABC affiliate, is a collaborative effort between the students of Barnstable High School and the Cape Cod Challenger Club to convert food waste to plant fertilizer with 100% of the proceeds funding Cape Cod Challenger Clubs’ free programs which are for kids and adults with special needs.

“Our students are our future and they know the importance of our environment and taking care of one another. Seeing the leadership exhibited by the students of Barnstable High School and the Cape Cod Challenger Club is inspirational,” said Mark Ells, Town Manager for the Town of Barnstable.
