At the March 16th School Committee Meeting, Deputy Director of Finance Gareth Markwell, gave the budget presentation for FY2023, which was followed by a public Budget Hearing. At the April 6th School Committee Meeting, the School Committee will vote on the School Department’s budget before it is given to the Town Manager and, ultimately, the Town Council. School Committee members Mike Judge, Kathy Bent, and Andre King all read to Hyannis West Elementary students last week.

 

Dr. Mayo-Brown reported in her Superintendent’s Report that she is working with Dr. Sara Ahern on a transition plan for the Superintendency. She spoke about a few administrative openings in the district:

  • Barnstable Intermediate School Principal: Human Resources Director Bill Cole is facilitating the Barnstable Intermediate School Principal search and hopes to have finalists to Dr. Mayo-Brown by the end of March.
  • West Villages Elementary Principal: There will be a search for a new principal at West Villages Elementary beginning soon.
  • Athletic Director: Scott Thomas will be retiring in September and the search for a new Athletic Director has begun and is being led by Human Resources Director Bill Cole.

 

Assistant Superintendent Kristen Harmon congratulated the Future Problem Solvers for competing in the Global Issues Problem Solving Competition with two teams in the Grade 8-9 Division, four teams in the Grade 10-12 Division, and one individual is moving on to the State Bowl in April. Barnstable was awarded the Accelerated Literacy Grant and teachers and staff will be piloting programs for five weeks starting next week.
